PLoS will waive APCs if the author can provide sufficient evidence that they have no other funding options. Typically this means no grant funding, grants that do not allow PCs as line items, and proof there are no institutional funds or projects for supporting OA on your campus.
If you have no funding, funding from an organization that does not allow APCs to be included in your grant, or perhaps even a very small grant that does not provide much room for reallocation of funds, you may try contacting your Dean for support.
Free or Reduced Rate Publication
The following science publications have reduced OA Publication fees for SDSU researchers.
If you are an ACS member, you receive a 67% discount on Article Processing Charges (APCs), and if you are a non-member, you are still eligible for a 33% discount due to our institutional purchase of all ACS titles.
If you published in an ACS Journal in 2014, you are eligible to claim 2 Author Rewards vouchers worth $750 for each article published until December 2017. These codes can be used to off-set OA fees and are TRANSFERABLE. Please consider donating your code(s) to the library for other authors to utilize if you will not use them by December 2017.
