This guide provides a brief introduction to Open Access, which OA Journals are indexed in our search databases and any support for publishing in OA Journals we may have.

Free or Reduced Rate Publication

The following science publications have reduced OA Publication fees for SDSU researchers.

  • Journal of Experimental Botany
    • Authors are offered free Open Access publication for research papers due to our institutional subscription
  • Royal Society of Chemists (RSC) Gold for Gold Program
    • A voucher program that allows researchers at member institutions to publish OA papers in any of the RSC Journals for free. Limited number per year, per institution. Contact the library to learn more.
  • American Chemical Society (ACS) Journals
    • If you are an ACS member, you receive a 67% discount on Article Processing Charges (APCs), and if you are a non-member, you are still eligible for a 33% discount due to our institutional purchase of all ACS titles.
    • If you published in an ACS Journal in 2014, you are eligible to claim 2 Author Rewards vouchers worth $750 for each article published until December 2017. These codes can be used to off-set OA fees and are TRANSFERABLE. Please consider donating your code(s) to the library for other authors to utilize if you will not use them by December 2017.
  • Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences
    • As an institutional subscriber, San Diego State researchers are eligible to pay a reduced fee of $1000 to have their articles published as Gold Open Access. 
    • You will STILL have to pay the regular APCs
