The Comic-Con Kids: Finding and Defining Fandom

In 2011, the library received a 3-year grant from the California Council for the Humanities, an independent non-profit state partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities: The Comic-Con Kids: Finding and Defining Fandom. The grant collects personal histories through a series of interviews with individuals involved in the creation of Comic-Con, most of whom were young San Diegans, ranging in age from 12-17 years. Their stories help weave together the cultural history of California, particularly San Diego, and Comic-Con, set against the backdrop of the 1970s.
