Standards

Standards are rules, techniques and conditions for engineering design, industrial practices, units of measurement, terminology, etc. Standards can be mandatory or voluntary. Think of standards as rules for uniformity, size, quality, performance, shape, definition and testing methodology of manufactured products.

SDSU students can access standards purchased by the library through a few online outlets. Print standards can be found in the Reference Collection located on the first floor of the Library Addition.

Technical Reports

Technical reports describe the progress or results of scientific or technical research and development. They serve as a report of accountability to the funding organizations, usually the federal government or private industry.

Both categories may include national or international reports by university departments, institutes, private industry, or government agencies and laboratories. Publication and dissemination of technical reports are not centrally coordinated; therefore, they can be particularly difficult to identify and locate.

Technical Reports are usually not peer-reviewed.  They need to be evaluated on how the problem, research method, and results are described.
