Poster Abstract

Poster Abstract

Much like the classic candy commercial, sometimes accidental combinations can lead to better things. This poster will present the learning outcomes and techniques for instruction for a joint moderated and asynchronous online Open Educational Resources (OER) and information literacy training module for instructors. Initially, these two library initiatives were presented in separate modules but had to be combined due to time constraints. Through participant interaction and feedback from an end of course assessment over 5 course offerings, it became clear that presenting the materials in a combined module was particularly beneficial in engaging instructors with both OER and information literacy and attracting instructors with an interest in one to see the value of the other.
This poster will provide a functional example of how librarian expertise is beneficial to the course and assignment design process for instructors, and demonstrates a method for advocating for the benefit of library participation in broader campus training initiatives. It will link to a Creative Commons licensed OER and information literacy Canvas Commons module that can be tailored to meet your instructional needs.
The poster has a Peanut Butter Cup theme that plays with how the two library initiatives beneficially combine. Interactive elements will include QR codes that allow for engagement with content outside of the parameter of a physical poster and additional content in Canvas Commons and Poll Everywhere.
