Reading Hour: Finding & Requesting Books

Search for books

The SDSU Library has a huge collection of reading materials from print books and eBooks, to magazines, academic journals, and more. The main way to search the library's collections is by using OneSearch on the library homepage.  You can use the advanced search feature to search by author, title, or other field.  You can also filter the search results by source type (books, articles, videos, etc.).  For more help with using the library OneSearch, check out these short video tutorials

If we don't have the book you are looking for in our collection you can request it from other institutions using CSU+San Diego Circuit, and Interlibrary Loan (ILL)

San Diego Circuit

San Diego Circuit

Request books from libraries throughout San Diego and have them delivered to the SDSU Library for you to pick up!

San Diego Circuit borrows books from local Universities and Public Libraries. Visit the Circuit website and search for your item then click Request. You will be prompted to login and you’ll need to enter the black barcode beginning with 622 on your Red ID card. It's just below your ID#. Choose a Pickup Location and click Submit to complete your order.

Request from CSU+

CSU+ borrows books and audiovisual material from across all 23 CSU campuses. If your item is unavailable at SDSU and you are signed in to OneSearch, you may notice a "Get a physical item" box with a blue Get It icon link in the record. Click the blue Get It button. Request a specific volume if applicable, set a Pickup location, and click the green Send arrow.

Try CSU+ first and if that is unsuccessful, then go to Circuit.

Do you like eBooks and audio books?

Download the free Libby app to enjoy free eBooks, digital audiobooks, and magazines from local libraries. All you need is a library card.

Request from Interlibrary Loan (ILL)

If you are looking for something other than a book or video, or a book that is unavailable through CSU+ or Circuit, go to the Interlibrary Loan(ILL) webpage to make your request. ILL borrows a broader range of materials including books, articles, book chapters, and proceedings from libraries all over the world, and the Library is able to fill around 90% of all requests. That's impressive! First time users must create an account.

For more information about borrowing from other libraries check out the Interlibrary Loan FAQ's.
