SDSU-IV Research Support for Nursing and related health fields

Video demonstrations and slide decks to support SDSU Imperial Valley Nursing students conducting research

Welcome investigators!

If you're here, you're probably working on something requiring a bit of research. Fun fact: in Spanish, "research" is "investigación". Even if you don't speak Spanish you probably know what that means. That is what you're doing when you conduct research: you're investigating. And investigation is not about knowing ahead of time, the learning is an essential part of the process.

Also, the learning is iterative. To "iterate" something is to say again, repeatedly. That is what we do when we research/investigate. We try a search, we review the results, we revise the search to try and get different or better results, and we try again. That is the iterative research process. It includes stumbles, strange results, dead ends, the occasional feeling of frustration, and that wonderful moment when we've figured out just the right keywords and have uncovered the (seemingly) hidden trove of research that will help us engage with (not answer!) our research question.

Below are links to four videos and the slides that accompany them. Each of the videos discusses and demonstrates an aspect of the research process. These videos were created specifically for Nursing and health science students but most of the content applies across many disciplines.

Happy investigating, you've got this!
