Citing Your Sources in APA

Citing Specific Resources

How to Cite Nursing Reference Center Plus or CINAHL Quick Lessons or EMB sheets

Schub, T., Mennella, H., & Pravikoff, D. (2017, February 17). Stroke: An overview. CINAHL Nursing Guide. Retrieved September 7, 2023, from https://search-ebscohost-com.libproxy.sdsu.edu/login.aspx?direct=true&db=nup&AN=T703213&site=nup-live&scope=site

You should find the necessary information at the top of the lesson or sheet you are using.

Note: Talk to your instructor about how they want these resources to be cited, as there are not specific ways to cite care sheets from databases.

How to Cite a Mobile App

Example APA citation for information from within a mobile app:

Epocrates. (2013). Diabetes. In Epocrates Essentials (Version 5.1) [Mobile app]. Google Play Store. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.epocrates&hl=en_US&gl=US&pli=1

  • use how the company capitalizes its name in other places such as in its copyright statement or the text
  • The URL should reflect where the reader could go to download the app
  • The in-text citation for an app is the same as every other APA Style in-text citation: author and date. If there is no author, look how to do in-text citations with no author.

How to Cite an Email

Emails aren't cited in the reference list, only in-text as personal communication. To learn more, look at the APA Style Blog's post on citing nonrecoverable sources.

Example citation:

Parenthetical: (F. Collins, personal communication, September 12, 2023)

Narrative: F. Collins (personal communication, September 12, 2023)
