When searching for maps, you will often see the scale of a map listed which indicates the level of detail you can expect to find on the printed map. The larger the number (ex. 1,000,000) the less detail you will see depicted on the map as it covers a wider geographic area. The smaller the number (ex. 24,000) you will see more detail for a much smaller geographic area.
