Primary legal sources are the text of constitutions, statutes, cases, regulations, treaties, and ordinances created by legislatures, courts and government executive agencies.
Secondary sources explain legal principles and concepts. These sources include journal articles, books & media, legal dictionaries, self-help materials, and finding tools. It is sometimes easier to begin your research with secondary sources.
