Presentation Basics

Formatting & Content

  • Ensure you use PowerPoint and that the resolution is in widescreen format
  • Use standard fonts (e.g. Helvetica, Times New Roman, or Courier)
  • Text size on slides should be 20 points or larger
  • Graphics files should be embedded into each presentation (not linked), scaled appropriately, and not be larger than 10MB and 800x600
  • Motion graphics (videos) must also be embedded and playable directly on the presentation
  • Each presenter (or group of presenters) will be allowed 10 minutes to give the presentation, followed by 5 minutes for questions (15 minutes total)
  • Don't overload your slides with images and text
  • Ensure text font and colors meet accessibility standards for audience members with visual impairments
  • Have a consistent theme
  • Proofread spelling and grammar
