How to install and get started using Zotero

What is Zotero?

Zotero logoZotero is a free and open source citation management tool that allows you to store, manage, and cite bibliographic references.  

When you download Zotero you automatically get 300 MB of storage free.  However you can buy more space if needed. 

How do I get Zotero?

Go to https://www.zotero.org/download/ to download Zotero 6 and Zotero Connector

  • Zotero 6 for Windows - desktop application where you save and organize all of your citations. 
  • Zotero Connector - browser extension that automatically pulls bibliographic information from online sources to add to your Zotero Library.

Why Should I Use Citation Management Software?

Citation management tools like Zotero help you with each stage of your research.  Instead of having articles, links, citations, and notes saved in multiple formats in multiple places you can use a tool like Zotero to:

► Collect references from the library website and databases, websites, or by uploading single or batches of pdfs

► Organize references into separate groups for different research projects

► Store references securely and back them up  

► Format references for a bibliography or use the Zotero plugin for Word

► Share references with other users
