SDSU introduced the Kanopy Streaming Video database in December 2016, and it’s been very popular with faculty, students and staff. However, Kanopy’s purchase-on-demand model means that we have spent a substantial amount of money on film licenses each year. Unfortunately, this level of spending is not sustainable.
Libraries do not buy films from Kanopy. Instead, we pay $150 per title to license the film from Kanopy for one year. At the end of that time, we must pay for another year’s license to continue to provide access.
In order to maintain access to as much content as possible, SDSU Library will be switching to a mediated model in summer 2019. If you need to show a film to your class, please fill out the form to request that the library purchase a license. Please fill out one form for each film.
