The University Library has a team of library faculty who support the various disciplines within the humanities. These librarians teach library research sessions, have consultations with students, and purchase and develop collections in their subject areas, among other responsibilities.
Laurel Bliss (she/her) is the Fine Arts Librarian and is responsible for research support and selecting materials in the areas of European history, Women's Studies, LGBTQ+ Studies, and French and Francophone Studies in addition to art. She holds an MA in history from the University of Virginia and an MLS from Southern Connecticut State University. She's been at SDSU since 2007, and can be reached at lbliss@sdsu.edu
Pam Lach (she/her/hers) is the Digital Humanities Librarian, DH Center Director, and Co-Director of the DH Initiative. She has a MA/PhD in U.S. History from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a MS in Information Science from UNC’s School of Information Sciences. In partnership with the National Humanities Center, she runs the “Podcasting the Humanities” virtual institute for humanities graduate students and faculty, and is part of a team working to build a CSU-wide network of distributed expertise in digital humanities. She is currently participating in a CAL interdisciplinary research cluster in digital ethnic studies. plach@sdsu.edu
Linda Salem is the Comparative Literature, Children’s Literature, Edward Gorey librarian and Assistant Head of Collections for the library. Previous to her arrival at SDSU Library in 2002, she taught children’s literature courses at the University of Redlands. She holds a BA in French language and literature and a certificate of specialization in illustrated rare books from Rare Books School at the University of Virginia.
Markel Tumlin is the English & American Literature Librarian who provides research support, instruction, and collection development for those disciplines, as well as for Rhetoric & Writing Studies. He holds an MA in English and an MSLS in Library Science, both from the University of Kentucky.
