Edward E. Marsh Ephemera Collection, 1930-2014The Edward E. Marsh Ephemera Collection is largely comprised of over 30 loose-leaf, matching leather binders of collected ephemera, pulps, magazines, art, and manuscripts from key figures in the development of the science fiction and pop culture, including Forrest J. Ackerman, Robert Heinlein, Frank Herbert, Ray Bradbury, Isaac Asimov, and Jules Verne. The collection also contains original artwork from prominent science fiction illustrators such as Kelly Freas, Frank Frazetta, and Gerry Grace as well as sculptural works by Anne Fewell. Original limited ephemera from both film and literary works: Battlefield Earth, Dune, and Blade Runner are also included.
Elizabeth Chater Manuscript Collection, 1956-1970The Elizabeth Chater Manuscript Collection dates from 1956-1970, with the majority of items undated. The collection documents Chater's own creative research and writing process. It consists of paper records, audio recordings, other items. Included in the collection is a manuscript copy of Chater's The Bridge and the Sepulchre. Also included are manuscripts by noted science fiction authors Suzette Haden Elgin and Joan D. Vinge that reveal changes made to works before publication. There is no filing order.
Jefferson Sutton Science Fiction CollectionJefferson Sutton, a San Diego State University graduate, is the author of more than 20 novels written in different genres: science fiction, war, politics, and juvenile literature. His books can be found in libraries throughout the country, his novels were published in more than 10 languages, and two of his juvenile books were Junior Literature Guild selections (Lord of the Stars, 1968, and The Programmed Man, 1969). Most of the collection documents Jeff Sutton's career as a writer. The collection consists of the typewritten drafts of Jeff Sutton's novels, correspondence with publishers, editors, and readers, publications about Jeff Sutton, book reviews, and private research materials. The smaller part of the collection documents Sutton’s successful professional career as a research engineer. The collection contains Jefferson Sutton’s publications in the popular aviation magazine Flying, the U.S. Department of Air Force’s magazine Flying Safety, and in the Air Force Institute of Technology's journal Contact. The collection also includes materials written by the wife and coauthor Eugenia Geneva Sutton. The papers date from approximately 1943 to 1985 with the bulk of the material from 1958 to 1979. The collection is organized into four series: Manuscripts, Articles, Correspondence, and Research Materials.
