Getting started with nutrition research in the library

Welcome to the SDSU Library!

Below, you will find the information needed to get you started at the library and using our resources. The rest of the guide is a starting point for your resource and information needs.

I recommend bookmarking this guide and using it as your personal library homepage. You can always get to the library website by clicking the logo in the top right.

Helpful Library Information

In order to access our thousands of electronic resources - including journal articles and library computer stations - you must register for a library PIN.

  • Have your RedID and email address handy and go to this website: Create/Reset PIN
  • Follow the instructions and you will be set up in less than 5 minutes.
  • If you ever forget your PIN or have trouble, first try resetting your PIN at the above link.
    • If that doesn't help, call or visit the CIRCULATION DESK (619-594-6793).

You can access our eJournals from off-campus by always going through the library website to search databases (even Google Scholar) and signing in with your PIN and RedID.

There are multiple places to pay-for-print in the library:

  • 24/7 Area
  • Library Computing Hub (2nd floor of Love)
  • Research Services (1st floor of Dome)

Printing is 10¢ for black and white and 45¢ for color. B&W is default, so you wil have to change the printer to color in the print settings page.

You can print from your own computer by sending an email, but this is B&W ONLY. The steps to print in the library are outlined on the Print Webpage.

The Print, Copy, Scan & Fax Page also details where copiers, scanners, and fax machines can be found in the library and their cost.

Adding money to your SDSU card can be done at the Aztec Markets, via credit card online, or at DART machines located throughout the library.

  • DART machines take BILLS only. There are bill changers in 24/7 and the Library Computing Hub.

There are multiple ways to request and borrow materials at the library. The library website has information on Loan Periods.

  • Checkout a book or bound periodical from our collection at the circulation desk
    • checkout media and media equipment from the Media Center
  • Request a book from a local library via Circuit
  • Request items not in our catalog or Circuit via InterLibrary Loan (ILL)

Course Reserves can be checked out from the Circulation Desk and used for a defined period of time (typically 2-3 hours).

Special Collections are located on the 4th floor of the Library Addition and do not circulate.

The Love Library and Library Addition have many different services and spaces available for your use. Please explore and find what fits your needs!

  • There is a 24/7 Area open all semester. You just need to show your RedID to enter after normal library hours.
  • There are multiple Quiet Study areas in the library:
    • One space in 24/7
    • One on the first floor hallway between the Library Addition (Dome) and Love Library
    • All of the 5th floor of Love Library
  • The Library Computing Hub on the Love Library 2nd floor has just been remodeled and is now a bright, functional space for working with specialized software, printing, copying, and getting help with computer issues.
  • The Writing Center is located on the 1st floor of the Library Addition - directly behind you when you come down the stairs.
  • The Media Center is located in the basement of the Library Addition
    • You can book study rooms, check out DVDs and video equipment as well as many other options. It's usually a quiet place to study as well.
  • Library Classrooms are located in the basement of the Library Addition as well. If you have a class scheduled for LA-76 or LA-78, go down two stories from the dome entrance.
