Biographical Information

You may need to find background or biographical information on the speech writer(s) you have chosen for your assignment.  Review the following search tips and recommended databases. 

Search Tips

  1. Click on tab for OneSearch
  2. Click on Advanced Search
  3. Click the dropdown and select Subject, and write the name of the person who gave the speech 
  4. You can write in additional keywords such as the title or subject of the speech on subsequent search lines

News Sources

To look for current events and news surrounding the topics of your speech, review the following search tips and recommended databases. 

Search Tips

  1. Click on the tab for OneSearch
  2. Click on Advanced Search 
  3. Click on the dropdown menu and select Subject, and write in the name of the person
  4. Add additional keywords
  5. Click Search
  6. Under Tweak my results on the left, under Resource type select Articles

News Databases

Subject Headings

Try combining some of your keywords with one of the following subjects for better search results:

  • Filmed speeches
  • Speeches, addresses, etc.
  • Speeches, addresses, etc., American 
  • Speeches, addresses, etc., American-African American authors
  • Women orators 

Documentaries

Search Tips

  1. Click on the tab for OneSearch 
  2. Click on Advanced search
  3. In the first dropdown menu select Genre, and write documentary films 
  4. leave the following dropdowns on Any field, and write keywords of your choice
  5. Click Search
  6. Under Tweak my results on the left, under Resource type select Videos
