(1) Clearly highlight, by means that may include a symbol or logo in a conspicuous place on the online campus course schedule, the courses that exclusively use digital course materials that are free of charge to students and may have a low-cost option for print versions.

(2) Clearly communicate to students that the course materials used for the courses identified pursuant to paragraph (1) are free of charge and therefore not required to be purchased.

Q: What is considered NC content?

  • Open educational resources
  • SDSU Library resources
  • Public domain resources
  • Faculty-created materials

NC designation in the Course Catalog

Courses that exclusively use no cost materials (library materials and OER) have an NC footnote in the General Catalog to alert students to that fact.
Courses that require students to purchase consumable supplies (lab supplies, art supplies, personal safety equipment, etc.) do not quality for NC status.
If you are using exclusively no cost materials please update your departmental course materials purchasing agent with your course materials list indicating not cost passed on to students. The departmental purchasing agents will notify Enrollment Services.
