OCLC Reclamation

What is reclamation?

A reclamation process matches your records in WorldCat to set (add) holdings; time-stamp them; and then cancels (deletes) holdings on records that were set earlier than the time of the data sync processing transaction. This type of process can bring your holdings up-to-date if you have not consistently maintained them and cannot easily isolate only the records that need to be updated.

What does reclamation mean for ebooks?

For the reclamation project, SDSU library submits MARC files for perpetual ebooks, including perpetual ebooks in ecollections and perpetual standalone ebooks. We also eliminating ProQuest ebooks

Ebook librarian works with the system specialist, serial catalogers, and monograph catalogers to create sets that meet the reclamation requirements. System specialist creates a data sync collection for the library, export the bib records in those sets, and send it to OCLC via FTP service. OCLC specialists send error messages and result files to the system specialist or send them to the Library via FTP service. Then, catalogers work together to correct the errors.

For records that were not in the previous submission, OCLC will set holdings for them. If records were in the previous submission but not in the new sets, OCLC will delete the holdings. For records that were in both submissions but with different OCLC numbers, OCLC will include those in the feedback files. If OCLC fails to set holdings to new records for any reasons, those records will be included in the final feedback files as well.

How to prepare for ebook reclamation?
  • Go to Alma> Admin > Manage Sets > Search by sets name 'reclaim.'
  • Excluding 'Reclaim.standalone.ebooks', Those results should match with the collections whose reclamation value equals 1 in the SDSU ecollection webpage
  • Export the bibliographic records of those sets by running the job "Export Bibliographic records"
  • Merge or send the MARC records to the system specialist
